Shop Local, Shop Watford

Shop Local, safely

A second national lockdown poses many challenges for us all, and as a community it is up to each and every individual to protect one another’s health. This is no exception for Watford businesses, who are taking all necessary precautions to ensure that we can all follow coronavirus guidelines.

We understand that during lockdown many will still need the essentials from our town’s shops, so it is important that you feel confident that you can safely visit Watford town centre. Ever since the first national lockdown, our town’s businesses have ensured that they are fully equipped with protective screens, hand sanitiser units, social distancing stickers, and face coverings for staff where appropriate.

In addition to government support and multi-nationals providing their local stores with the necessary equipment, Watford BID have also distributed over £15,000 to smaller shops to aid them with COVID safety measures. The priority of our businesses is to ensure the safety of each and every one of their staff and you, the customer.

It is not only the essential outlets which are open during the second lockdown, we still have food & drink outlets open for takeaway & delivery, and many retailers are open for click & collect only. You can view the full list of where is 'Open for Business' here.

Support Watford This Christmas

It is extremely challenging times for high streets up and down the country with so many of our favourite brands suffering and being forced to reduce staff. We are urging locals to support your Watford businesses in any way you can, even simply deciding on a takeaway order rather than cooking could make more of a difference than you believe! Or if you are looking to treat yourself to a new outfit, check out the businesses on the click & collect list and pick up your new purchase whilst on your daily walk!

With Christmas fast approaching and our town set to re-open its doors in December, we want you to choose Watford as your destination of choice to spoil your loved ones and end a difficult year on a positive note. By doing so, not only will you have a wonderful selection of gifts to choose from in Watford, but you may also be the difference in keeping our wonderful town and its businesses trading.

Maria Manion, Watford BID’s Chief Executive with a few words: “The town centre really is the heart of all communities up and down the country, and no community is as together as Watford. We all know someone who is employed in the town centre whether it be a family member in a clothing store, a friend in an office, or a partner as a chef. That’s why it is so important that we all make that extra effort to support our town wherever we can, and choose Watford this Christmas – many livelihoods close to us depend on it.”

Watford Gift Card

A fantastic new way in which you can show your support to Watford businesses without even leaving your home is to purchase a Watford Gift Card. The Watford Gift Card simply works like a shopping centre or retailer gift card, but instead it is eligible to use in multiple Watford businesses both on the high street and at intu shopping centre – guaranteeing that the money you spend will remain in the local economy.

You can treat yourself to a Watford Gift Card to treat yourself, or you can purchase it is a Christmas present for somebody else allowing them the choice of where to spend in store places such as M&S, The Entertainer and Watford FC. Visit www.watfordgiftcard.com for all the details and to load up your Watford Gift Card ahead of the festive season and January sales!
