Covid community heroes in Watford are recognised

Three local residents were honoured by Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor and Chairman Cllr Aga Dychton last month as part of the Watford Unsung Heroes initiative.

The Mayor and Chairman presented certificates and hampers to three people for their outstanding services to the Watford community:

• Georgina Cooper – who kept people’s spirits up through the first lockdown by touring Woodside and the surrounding area dressed in a full body dinosaur suit and raising £2,500 to buy PPE for local care homes.
• Catherine Agnihotri – who founded and coordinated a volunteer support network in March 2020 covering the whole of Park ward, connecting residents who needed support and keeping them informed as lockdown progressed.
• Bob Haggerty - a local taxi driver who spent lots of time during the pandemic checking on elderly and isolated residents in the community and helping them with errands.

The unsung heroes initiative is ongoing, if you know someone who has gone above and beyond in their local community and you would like to nominate them, please email Helen Smith at helen.smith@watford.gov.uk with the nominee’s name, address and contact details and the reason for their nomination.
