CitiPark teams up with Watford BID to offer free soft drinks for designated drivers during World Cup 2018
To celebrate the World Cup 2018, leading car park operator CitiPark has announced that it will be running a ‘designated driver’ campaign in association with Watford BID, to treat those driving their friends to and from pubs/bars in Watford to watch matches to free soft drinks as a reward!
A number of pubs and bars in and around the Watford area will be taking part, including: Bar Bodega, The Colombia Press, Faborjé, Molloy’s, The Moon Under Water, The One Crown, Steinbeck & Shaw, Twisted Monkey and Walkabout. The promotion will run for the duration of the World Cup, from 14th June to 15th July.
The facts about drink driving
The consumption of alcohol has become firmly embedded in British culture, where 23% of men and 18% of women report weekly consumption above recommended guidelinesand alcohol-related hospital admissions in England alone have risen to 1.2 million. (Source: Alcohol Concern, ‘Statistics on Alcohol’, May 2014).
Over time, football and alcohol have become closely entwined at all levels, and officially endorsed. The English, Welsh and Scottish Football Associations, for example, all have formal partnerships with leading beer companies and for many fans, drinking is a central component to the match day experience.
With a total of 64 matches due to take place across 32 days during the World Cup, the leisure industry is set to capitalise on this summer’s biggest sporting event. It is reported that during the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup in 2010, Carlsberg, the official sponsor of the England football team, expected an extra 21 million pints to be drunk during the tournament.
So how does the scheme work?
When customers park in any of CitiPark’s three Watford car parks (Church, Gade or Sutton) to watch a World Cup match at a nearby pub or bar, all they have to do is pre-book their parking space via the CitiPark website and then simply show their pre-booking confirmation email at the bar/pub participating in the promotion, to claim their free soft drink(s)* during the match. Alternatively, they can pay for their parking on the day and use their parking receipt to qualify for free soft drinks. It’s a win-win!
Charlotte-Daisy Ziff, Head of CSR at CitiPark, said: “We are very pleased to team up with Watford BID who have excellent relationships with local businesses, to demonstrate that we care about all drivers and want designated drivers to have as enjoyable an experience during the World Cup as everyone else.”
John Gautrey, Chief Operating Office at CitiPark, added: “It’s important to us as a responsible and forward-thinking car parking operator to play a key role in raising awareness of the dangers of drink driving during periods of increased drinking, such as the World Cup, as well as promoting Watford as a safe and responsible area.”
Kwame Tefe, Chairman at Watford BID, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with CitiPark on this excellent promotion which aims to give back as well and protect the people of Watford, helping them to enjoy the fun of the World Cup while still staying safe behind the wheel.”
